Advantages and disadvantages of ondulin

Ondulin is a durable and very strong roofing material. It is produced by the method of pressing cardboard with subsequent impregnation with bitumen. The upper layers are coated with resin and mineral dyes, which gives the material aesthetics and provides protection from external environmental influences. There are no harmful impurities in the composition of ondulin, since its manufacture is from environmentally friendly raw materials. This is confirmed by the presence of special certificates.

Advantages of ondulin:

1. the service life can be about 50 years, and the guaranteed waterproof period is 15 years;
2. the material is considered environmentally friendly, since it does not contain asbestos;
3. unlike other roofing materials, ondulin has a small weight: as a result, we obtain a minimum load on the walls and foundation;
4. has excellent water resistance and elasticity, resistance to external environmental factors;
5. if the crate is done correctly, the roof is able to withstand a hurricane wind and a large amount of snow;
6. the possibility of use in various fields of economic activity, for example, for facing vertical surfaces;
7. speed and ease of installation. The process is much faster than the installation of slate and with a great desire everyone can handle it.

Disadvantages of ondulin:

1. weak color scheme;
2. the material “floats” under the intense influence of sunlight;
3. low fire safety;
4. with a small angle of inclination, there is a possibility of water flowing into the locks;
5. high consumption of fixing materials - about 30 units per 1 m²;
6. collects dust.

Due to this quality, ondulin is very popular with buyers. And the price, as a rule, is much less than that of a conventional slate. Its cutting is carried out using an ordinary hacksaw on wood, and fastening is done on the crate or on top of the old roof, using special screws or nails.

In addition to the use of this roofing material in the private sector, it is also used in capital construction. It is used when laying the roof of hospitals, schools, residential five-story buildings, industrial premises. Due to its low weight, ondulin is used in repairs as a second roof covering. It can also be used as fences and barriers by installing it vertically.
